>I just got into Tucson, AZ last night, and it will serve as my training base for the next 2 months. My buddy Ethan “The DB Express” Brown and I rented a condo here. The DB Express is super fast, so expect me to post something very self-aggrandizing and boastful if I ever drop him on a workout.
After just one day, I’m very excited. Today’s high was 75, and there was not a single cloud in the sky – just what I came here for! Best of all, there are several outdoor lap pools around town, and I was able to get an annual pass to all of them for $50. What a deal! What a country! Outdoor swimming is where it’s at. Well, open water swimming is really where it’s at, but there aren’t exactly very many lakes around here, so I’ll happily settle for the outdoor lap pool.
I’m also pumped for the food scene down here. Went to a random Mexican restaurant tonight, and it was fantastically good. Since we’re only 60 miles fromt the border, I’m assuming that it was just the “tip of the iceberg” in terms of great Mexican food in Tucson (also, I can’t complain about the giant mug of Dos XX for $4).
I have a light, recovery, training week coming up, so I should have plenty of time to explore the area. On a less fun note, the week ends with me running a 5km race on Sunday the 10th. I’m not really looking forward to that, since I really focus on long-course racing, and my short distance speed is shockingly slow. Eh, maybe it’ll go well. Only one way to find out, right?
